DAY 8 THE SELF-DEPRECIATING TONGUE
You engage in self-deprecation when you think or speak of
yourself as being of little or no worth and thereby minimize the value of what
you “bring to the table” or have to offer. Satan loves to take us from one
extreme to the other, feeling like we are “da bomb” to feeling like we are “ da
dud”.
Self-deprecation is often disguise as humility, but in reality,
it is a rejection of the Word of God, which assures us we can do all things
through Christ who strengthens us.
What others calls or labels us is not important; it is only we
call or label ourselves.
Have you ever had an experience that you have allowed to define
you? Whether it is “fatso” for having a long time of weight issues with no
victory in sight, or “victim” from being truly victimized more than once, or
even a “failure” because you are divorced, it is time to ABANDON those negative
labels and redefine yourself!
Del-deprecation displeases God. When Moses complained that he
was inadequate to lead the Israelites, because of his speech impediment, God
became upset.

Ex. 4:11-12
What an awesome promise. We must reject the spirit of
inadequacy. Without God, we can do nothing anyway. Because of the reality of
His Word, we can walk in confidence-not in ourselves-but in the grace of God
that empowers us.

1)
Describe one of your own perceived limitations that
has kept you feeling inadequate or unqualified to purse a certain endeavor.
2)
Write a brief statement of what you would have done
by now if this limitation did not exist. Ask God for the courage to step out of
the boat and to pursue your destiny.
3)
Explain your understanding of the difference
between humility and self-deprecation.
